02 THE TECHNOLOGY
Agent-Based Models
ABMs are computational models that virtually reproduce the dynamics of complex social systems. They do this by creating individual agents (people, companies, vehicles, etc.) that follow a set of predefined rules and interact with each other and with the environment.
Large Language Models
LLMs are a type of artificial intelligence trained on large amounts of text to understand and generate natural language. They work by predicting which word (or symbol) comes next in a sentence, thereby learning patterns, meanings and implicit rules of language. In practice, an LLM can answer questions, write texts, translate, summarise and converse in a similar way to a person.
